Ramadan: Islamic Art

I wanted to bring attention to an aspect of Islam that I think we don’t appreciate enough.

Artwork and calligraphy is a beautiful part of Islam and one that is often overlooked. I’m sure you’re wondering what Islamic art is, right? Well it can range from calligraphy to glass work to painting or to textiles (among other things).

During a random day of Facebooking, I came across a young, Toronto based Islamic artist – Sehar Shahzad. Sehar is a university student and enjoys Islamic art because it blends her passion for art with her love for religion.

Some of her artwork is displayed below:

Surat Al-Fatiha. Handmade - pretty awesome, don't you think?!

Dhikr Mini-Canvases with the canvases reading (right to left): SubhanAllah, Alhamdulilah, Allahu Akbar

You can order a variety of customized art-pieces from the artist, Sehar Shahzad.
